«Brussels agrees to swap tax on pensions for other measures», reports Diário de Notícias, as the new memorandum of understanding signed with the so-called troika of international lenders states that Portugal can still replace some of the austerity measures, either in part or in full. One of the most controversial measures is the tax on pensions, but to replace it the country would have to enforce further austerity beyond 2015.

«Seguro wants CGD to pay state’s debts to companies», reveals Jornal de Notícias, as Socialist leader António José Seguro challenged the government by presenting ten “zero cost” measures in parliament aimed at stimulating the economy and combat unemployment. According to the paper, the main opposition party wants companies who are owed money by the state to be able to transfer that debt to state-run bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).

According to the financial newspaper, the government and the so-called troika of international lenders are discussing the new state reform measures to take to parliament before 15 July.
